OpenAthens

Off-campus access to WSU Library resources

What is OpenAthens?

OpenAthens is a single sign-on authentication system that works with Okta to connect users to WSU Libraries online resources. If users have not already signed in to another Okta application, they will be prompted with an Okta sign-in screen. Users who have already signed in to another Okta application will be taken straight to the online resource (and not be forced to sign in a second time).

Note: Not all vendors are able to use OpenAthens Federated Access to authenticate users at this time. Some vendors and platforms will still need to be proxied. The following is a list of vendors or titles that currently do not support OpenAthens Federated Access:

  • ACM Digital Library

  • American College of Physicians (American Society of Internal Medicine)

  • CABI

  • Communication Institute for Online Scholarship

  • Electronic Journal of Communication

  • Health Affairs

  • JAMA and other AMA publications

  • Journal of Clinical Oncology

  • Journal of Veterinary Medical Education

  • MIT Press Journals

  • MIT Sloan Management Review

  • Optica Publishing Group

  • Oxford

  • SAGE

If you need to access resources from one of the vendors/titles listed above, please do not use the OpenAthens institutional login on their website. Instead, start from the WSU Libraries Search It tool or Databases AZ list. Once we move completely to OpenAthens, sign in will be possible directly through their vendor websites.
