OpenAthens

Off-campus access to WSU Library resources

What is OpenAthens?

OpenAthens is a single sign-on authentication system that works with Okta to connect users to WSU Libraries online resources. If users have not already signed in to another Okta application, they will be prompted with an Okta sign-in screen. Users who have already signed in to another Okta application will be taken straight to the online resource (and not be forced to sign in a second time).

OA Redirector vs. OA Forced Proxy

Vendors who support OpenAthens Federated Access use the OA Redirector. However, not all vendors are able to support OpenAthens Federated Access at this time and for their resources we must use the OA Forced Proxy. To see a list of platforms/titles that currently require proxy access, please visit the WSU Libraries OpenAthens Link Creator page. If you need to access resources from one of the platforms/titles on this page, please do not use the OpenAthens institutional login on their website. Instead, start from the WSU Libraries Search It tool, the Databases AZ list, or create your own link using the WSU Libraries OpenAthens Link Creator page. As those vendors move to supporting the use of OpenAthens Federated Access, we will remove them from the list and sign in will be possible directly through their vendor websites.
