Search Tips for Finding Media Items

When searching Search It for media materials, there are few tips we can offer to help make your searching easier. Be aware of what kind of search you are asking Search It to conduct.  Are you intending to search for keywords, which is the default setting? Or do you intend to search according to the title of the media you are looking for?  The drop-down menu on the left will allow you to focus your search. The search box is to the right of that and then another drop-down box follows, which allows for specifying the collection, in this case "Audio Visual".

Finding specific media items and materials using Search It can be made simple by using the following keywords for searching:

  • "feature film" for movies
  • "audiobook" for books on tape or CD
  • "video cassette" for VHS tapes, etc

Be sure to type in any other information you may have when conducting a keyword search, such as fragments of a film's title.
