Mastermind is a two player board game in which the objective is to figure out the opposing player's code. The game board has 12 rows of four holes per row that hold the game pieces called "pegs." One player creates a code using four of the colored pegs of their choosing that is covered by a small "shield" to prevent the opposing player from seeing the code. The opposing player tries to guess the code by placing different combinations of four pegs in each row and receiving feedback from the other player regarding how many of the pegs are in the correct position or the correct color. A player wins by guessing the opposing player's code within their 12 rows of guesses.
