Professional Associations - their publications, conferences, and other activities are a window to your (future) career.  Finding out what issues are being discussed in your field of study will make you a more savvy job seeker, and help your transition from being a student to a professional.

Conferences (or symposiums) are meetings of professionals or academics where short presentations, paper readings, and formal discussions are held.  Searching the literature of conference proceedings and papers are great ways of getting up to speed on the latest ideas.
