ASM Citation Style

American Society for Microbiology journals use a particular style for citations. References are numbered according to their order in the text. The number is shown in the main text in parentheses, and the full citation listed at the end of the article.

ASM information on reference style.

ASM style does not abbreviate author lists using "et al." All authors/editors are included.

A few source types are cited parenthetically and not included in the end reference list. These are: unpublished data, manuscripts submitted for publication, personal communications, and websites.
