Intensive American Language Center (IALC): Level 5 Research Assignment

This guide will help you to conduct research on themes this semester of World/Public Health, Climate Change, and Immigration.

Welcome!

Welcome to the WSU Libraries research guide for your Level 5 Research Assignment! This guide will help you to find resources for your paper, using both the library and the Internet.

Each of the buttons on the top of the page (for example, "Finding Books") will lead you to another page with links and advice on finding specific resources (books, articles, lectures, or other media).

The "Fact or Opinion?" button will help you to EVALUATE your source. This is a very important part of college-level research. For each resource you use in your paper, you must be able to demonstrate that it is current (up-to-date), accurate (truthful, uses facts), and unbiased (does NOT provide an opinion). This tab will help you to quickly evaluate each of your resources.

The "APA Citation Style" button will help you to quickly and properly cite your resources. It is necessary to list all of the resources that you use in your paper. If you do not, it is considered "Plagiarism."

Research Topics

Your readings this semester will consist of articles provided by your instructor. All of the articles relate to the following themes:

  • Technology in the classroom
  • Social media in teaching and learning

Keywords and Search Tips

Keywords are any search words related to your topic. So, keywords MIGHT include:

  • Social media
  • Classroom technology
  • Pedagogy
  • Curriculum

The way to find keywords to search is to write down your topic and choose the MOST IMPORTANT words. Then, as you are searching for these most important words, you will likely get ideas for other terms that you can search! Look for any SIMILAR words. For example, instead of searching for just technology you could try searching by type of technology (computers, mobile phones, social media, etc.).
